Power Rangers was intended to launch a film series with multiple sequels, but all plans were cancelled due to its commercial failure, leading Saban to sell the franchise rights to Hasbro. It was also a box-office bomb despite being the highest grossing Power Rangers movie, grossing $142 million worldwide against a budget of $105 million. It was met with mixed reviews upon release, with praise for the visual effects, cinematography, musical score and performances (particularly Montgomery and Cyler), but criticism for its uneven tone, product placement, divergences from its source material, lack of action and especially the lack of ambition.
